What to Expect

You like my work.

You want me to photograph something important in your life.

Awesome!  I’m so excited!  I feel very blessed that you have chosen me to use my creativity on your something important.  But you’re asking yourself “What next?”.  I will try to be, um, not boring, in telling you what you need to know.

First and foremost – CALL ME and tell me you want a spot on my calendar.  Email works too.  We will find a time for your complimentary consultation, your session, and pencil in a time for your personal viewing.

Complimentary Consultation

  • If we are doing a studio session, I like that you come to the studio.  One, so you are comfortable knowing where it is.  Two, so you can see some of the prop pieces I have to offer and we can start to plan out the look of your session.  If your session is going to be in your home or out on location somewhere, I am more than happy to meet at your residence or out for coffee.
  • We will discuss clothing options at this time.  I will provide you with examples of different types of clothing combinations.
  • This is also the time you will sign a contract.  Don’t worry, it’s not signing your life away!  It just a document that outlines studio policies, timelines for viewing the images, approximate number of images you will see, copyright information, model release, payment policies for final product, and basic protection for both of us.
  • Cancellations and postponing are also discussed at this time.
  • This usually takes less than an hour.
  • The entire session fee is due at this time.  Cash and major plastic accepted through Square.

Session

  • There will be different arrival times based on the type of session we are doing.  Your arrival time (or mine if we are at your house) will be discussed during the consultation.  For a general idea on studio sessions, I ask that you arrive no more than 10 minutes before your appointed time.  I ask that you arrive mostly dressed and ready to make magic!  I can not guarantee that I will be ready if you arrive earlier than that, as I have my own children to make sure are set or out the door, or whatever.
  • The length of your session will also be discussed at the consultation, as it varies with the subject.  I like to say “the younger the subject, the longer the session”.
  • One thing I can not stress enough, is that I don’t always like to get super smiley images or always looking ‘at the camera’.  If I need the parents help holding a child attention, I will ask for it, in specific ways at specific times.  Please do not stand 10 feet away hollering to get their attention.
  • Lateness.  Again, this will be covered in the consultation, but if you are later than the scheduled time, I can not guarantee that time can be tacked on at the end of your session.  It is your responsibility to be on time, and to let me know if you will be late.

Personal Viewing

  • As of the summer of 2012, this is new to me.  In the past I did online galleries, and found I was missing important relationship building with my clients.  So, although I don’t have the best of the best to show you your images, we will sit down and go over them.
  • I will do my best to find a time within 2 weeks of your session for you to view your images.
  • For all types of sessions, my goal is to show you between 30 and 40 images.  I will try my hardest to not show you 2 practically identical images.  That just makes it harder for you to decide.
  • I will do a full edit on a handful of images to show you what the final purchased images will look like  The rest will have a soft proof (color, cropping for intent, etc) done on them.
  • This process can take up to 90 minutes.
  • This is a custom order.  Once it has been submitted for printing, it can not be changed.  For this reason, I ask that you bring along any other decision makers.  Changes will only be accepted up to 24 hours after the Personal Viewing.
  • I require at least half the invoice total to be paid before it is submitted to the printer.  The remainder is due on or before pickup/ delivery.
  • Because of the attention that needs to be paid, I ask that children be left home.  Obviously, nurslings need to accompany mom.

Again, thank you so much for choosing me to be your photographer!
