Sam & Max

I had so much fun photographing these two handsome gents last month, I was squiggling out of my pants the entire way.  I drove the 5 hours to Madison, WI to photograph my cousins 10 day old twin boys.

This couple has always held a special place in my heart.  For their wedding, my husband and I had to decline their RSVP, along with the other wedding we were invited to on that same day.  I was so bummed that we said we had to miss them both.  You see, that was the medical due date of our first child.  Thankfully, our little bub decided that day wasn’t his birthday, so we got all dressed up and headed out.  When we arrived at this wedding’s reception, I instantly felt bad.  They were more concerned of me being there than of having fun on their big day!  In the end we all had fun.  And now they have 2 little boys!

A smile for a smile

Next weekend I am participating in an event to save smiles.  I know it sounds corny, but think about it – what would it feel like if you didn’t like your smile?  I mean, really couldn’t stand the sight of it.  And others laughed and ridiculed you because of it.  They shunned you.  You were refused an education (yes, some of these children are).  What would it feel like if it hurt your mouth to eat?

In 1982, Operation Smile was founded to literally save smiles.  And lives.  Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity that is dedicated to helping children and young adults born with facial deformities.  In as little as 45 minutes, one cleft lip surgery can change a child’s life forever.  Every three minutes a child somewhere in the world is born with a facial deformity.  One in ten will no survive to see their first birthday.  Those who do survive often libe in isolation and pain.  Each year, more than 100,000 children are born with a facial deformity in Operation Smile’s 26 partner countries.  Tens of thousands remain untreated.

So what am I doing about it?  I am partnering with PPA Charities (Professional Photographers of America) and Operation Smile in the month of April to save smiles.  On April 6, 2013, for a $24 minimum donation, you will receive a 15 minute mini session in my studio and a 5×7 gift print.  That’s 1/10th of a smile.  That’s right.  It only costs $240 to give a smile.

How can you help?  CALL!  Call me at 612-756-1449 and let me know what time slot you want.  I will email you instructions on how you can PayPal the donation (to hold your time) so Melissa Lyn Portraits doesn’t incur the fees.  Or you can mail a check to hold your session spot as well.  Melissa also has special event pricing, and every session gets a $50 studio credit for a future session!

Help me save smiles!
